Osiris Pale Ale by Sun King — Review

For this installment of Thirsty Throwback Thursday, I found a review of Sun King’s Osiris Pale Ale dated 2012.

Date Reviewed. April 30, 2012

Serving Size. 16 ounce can.

Aroma. Smells like malted grains and wort during the boil just after adding a fresh batch of hops. The hop bouquet is like picking fresh hops off of the vine and crushing it in your fingers. Very floral with grapefruit citrus notes. It also has a green earthy quality like a wet redwood forest. The malt profile is like fresh boiling wort with a sweet and candy-like aroma, similar to a glazed cake donut but not quite.

Appearance. The color of this beer is a glowing orange hue topped by a frothy creamy head with very good lasting power, which leaves a thin, white lacing all over the glass. Looks very inviting.

Flavor. This is a full flavored pale ale that is clearly on the on the sweeter side of pale ales, which covers the creeping bitterness of the 50 IBUs. It has just a touch of grain flavor that comes off characteristics of freshly made toast. Just a tinge of copper.

Mouthfeel. The sweetness of this beer makes it seem like a fuller bodied beer that is rich and creamy.

Overall. There is nothing stale about this pale. It is lively in the nose and in the flavor profiles. Although it may not be as quaffable as other pale ales, it makes up for it in complexity and a beer that your can enjoy sip after sip. Looking back over my descriptors of this beer a common theme is fresh. Fresh hops, fresh boiling wort, freshly made toast, fresh fruit. Pale is certainly not ordinary when it comes to Sun King.
