This is the second year that I’ve attended Casks & Quesos and like last year this was a great event. All of the beer at this event was cask conditioned and masterfully paired with a cheese and bread.

SF Beer Week 2011 Opening Gala

The kick off event for SF Beer Week was the Opening Gala on Friday, February 11, 2011 and for those who made it in the doors, it was a great event. The event included over 35 brewers, many special release beers, and even a few new breweries.

On the Eve of SF Beer Week, Ice Cream and Triple

SF Beer Week didn’t officially start until today, Friday, February 11 but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any SF Beer Week related events going on last night. So I got a head start by visiting Humphrey Slocombe for beer ice cream and Shotwell’s for a first taste of Cherry Voodoo’s Triple.

Pliny the Younger 2011 Release Day 1 at Russian River

Friday, February 4 marked the 2011 release of Russian River Brewing’s Pliny the Younger, which is, for many, one of the top beers in the world. Santa Rosa is only about an hour away from San Francisco so my wife and I jumped in the car on Friday to try Pliny the Younger for the first time.

Beer in a Cask, Keg, Can, or Bottle? The Session #48

For the February 2011 installment of The Session, Simon Johnson, of the Reluctant Scooper, asks beer bloggers across the globe to a address a straightforward yet complex question: cask, can, keg, or bottle? Simon says, “The question is simple but your answer may not be: Cask, Keg, Can, Bottle: Does dispense matter?” My answer is that it depends on the situation, there are pros and cons for each method. I’d also like to observe that Simon forgot one vessel: the growler.
